Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, check-in at the hotel, and a briefing on the itinerary. Afterwards, we will tour Ulaanbaatar. Visit the famous Gandan Monastery with its large Buddha statue. Tour the former Winter Palace (Bogd Khan Palace). In the evening, you will have the opportunity to experience Mongolian folklore.

In the morning, our driver will pick us up from our hotel and head south. On the way to the Gobi, we'll drive to the "Baga Gazariin Chuluu," which is located in the Central Gobi Aimag (an aimag corresponds to a German federal state, but is usually much larger).

The journey continues toward the Tsagaan Suwarga Canyon, a bizarre limestone rock formation also known as the White Stupa. The canyon itself was formed by wind and water erosion. The play of colors is truly impressive.

Today we continue along the southern slope of the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains to the Vulture Gorge. We'll stop for some shopping in Dalanzadgad along the way. A river winds its way through a 200-meter-high, ever-narrowing gorge. This gorge is covered in ice until spring, which usually doesn't melt completely even in summer. Many mysterious stories surround this gorge.

After breakfast, we set off and reach the Khongor Sand Dune (Khongorin Els), a large sand dune approximately 160 km long and up to 10 km wide. In the afternoon, we explore the sand dune on foot and enjoy the expansive view over the Gobi.

Continue towards Bayanzag. This is where the first large dinosaur discoveries in the Gobi were made. For this reason, this place is often referred to as the "dinosaur graveyard." Bayanzag also features extensive saxaul forests. The saxaul tree is a very slow-growing desert tree.

Our next destination is the Ongi Monastery (Ongin Chiid). Over 500 Buddhist monks once lived there. It is located on the Ongi River of the same name. During the religious persecutions in the 1930s, the monastery was destroyed. Many of the monks living there lost their lives.

Today we're heading to the Orkhon Waterfall. The trail leads through a secluded valley. In the evening, you're welcome to take in the wonderful scenery. The Orkhon Valley is relatively densely populated, and we'll most likely be visited by the nearby nomads in the evening. As is customary, we'll greet them with warm milk tea and chat with them.

The journey continues to Tsencher, a hot spring. A bath in these thermal waters brings relaxation. Spend two days in the hot springs of the Blue Wilderness and relieve your fatigue.

We continue to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of the Mongolian Empire of Genghis Khan. In the 14th century, almost the entire city was destroyed by the Ming Dynasty. In Kharkhorin, we visit the Kharkhorin Museum, which displays the findings of the German-Mongolian excavations and presents the various periods of Mongolian history, from the Stone Age to the Mongol Empire. We also visit the famous Erdene-Zuu Monastery, founded in 1586 on the initiative of Avtai Sain Khan and the oldest center of Yellow Buddhism in Mongolia. There is the opportunity to participate in a Buddhist service. We continue to Khogno-Khan National Park.

We continue to Hustai National Park. A project to reintroduce Przewalski's horses (Tachi) has been underway in the area for several years. With a bit of luck, we might spot the wild horses. Afterwards, we continue to our overnight accommodation, where we'll spend our last evening on the steppe.
